Auli’i Cravalho Biography:

Born and raised in Hawaii, Cravalho always had a keen interest in performing arts. At a young age, she made the decision that she wanted to be an actor, and decided to pursue that. It was music that young Auli’i originally had the biggest passion for. In fact, while attending Kamehameha School on the Kapãlama campus, she sang in her school’s glee club and still does. While singing in a charity competition, Cravalho was discovered by a casting agent and started to turn to acting.

Once signed with the agent, she was encouraged to audition for the lead role in an upcoming Disney movie called Moana (2016). She was initially reluctant but decided to audition, as the part involved a lot of singing. Hundreds of girls were auditioned for the part, and Cravalho was the last person to audition for the role. Her fearlessness, vocal talents, and playful approach won her the role, and her career was born.

Moana was a runaway success, grossing close to $650 million worldwide, and Auli’i reprised the role in a follow-up short film entitled Gone Fishing (2017). Her acting career will continue with a role as Lillette in the upcoming TV drama series Rise. Though the 16-year-old is still in the very early stages of her career, it seems likely that this actress has a long and successful future ahead of her.
