Ernie Hudson Biography:

Ernie Hudson grew up in Michigan and never knew his parents. Hudson was raised by his grandmother, and he grew up writing stories and poems. After finishing high school, Ernie joined the United States Marine Corps for a short time. After this, he moved to Detroit and became a playwright at the black theater company, Concept East. To further develop his skills he enrolled at Wayne State University, and formed a theater group, before moving to Yale School of Drama.

He performed frequently with the school’s theater collective and appeared in Daddy Goodness, where he met Shaft (1971) director Gordon Parks. Parks gave him his first film role in the movie Leadbelly (1976). He followed this up with a part in The Human Tornado (1976), and appearances on TV shows like The Incredible Hulk and Taxi. His best-known role came in 1984 when he won the coveted role of Winston Zeddemore in supernatural comedy Ghostbusters (1984). The film was a global smash hit, and Hudson reprised the role for the sequel Ghostbusters II (1989).

He also had roles in successful movies, such as The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) and The Crow (1994). He also had recurring roles in Desperate Housewives, Modern Family, and Graves. In 2016, Hudson made a cameo appearance in the reboot of Ghostbusters (2016). He has also voiced Zeddemore in the 209 video game release Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
