Luke Perry Biography:
Luke Perry was born in Ohio under the name Coy Luther Perry III. His father was a steelworker, and his mother a homemaker. Luke attended Fredericktown High School, and, after graduation, he decided he wanted to become an actor. With opportunities limited in Ohio, Perry decided to move to Los Angeles and pursue his dreams.
After auditioning for over 200 acting jobs, Perry finally scored his first role in a TV commercial. He appeared in the music video for a Twisted Sister video, before securing roles in the TV shows Loving (1987-88) and Another World (1988-89). In 1990, Perry won the most iconic role of his career, heartthrob Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills 90210. He played Dylan for over 200 episodes and was one of the biggest teen idols of the 1990s as a result. During his time on the show, he married Rachel Sharp in 1993. The couple divorced in 2003, and they have two children together.
Though Perry was offered the chance to reprise his role as Dylan in the spin off show 90210 (2008), he declined, stating that he wasn’t interested unless Aaron Spelling was involved in the project.
Perry has had successful stints on other TV shows, including Oz (2001), Jeremiah (2002), and Riverdale (2017). Perry’s first real foray into movies was when he secured the role of Pike in the film version of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). He has also appeared in the Fifth Element (1995), Redemption Road (2010), and Red Wing (2013).
