This animated hit will be finally taking flight over the Memorial Day weekend frame. The budget for most global launches and in this case Disney’s will be $73M-$75M domestic together with $173M- $175M worldwide.
The Aladdin footage in the room was the major talk from rival studio attendees with some actually saying that Will Smith looked scary as the genie, as if they had encountered the genie itself. This came all the way from Cinemacon, however tracking has revealed that the pic opened up to $68M domestic in March 2015.
Aladdin will be proudly playing in more than 4400 theatres with previews as from tomorrow at 6pm and as early as 5pm at select fan event screenings.
Industry sources will be eyeing a $100M-$120M overseas start when Prince Ali and the Blue Genie hit all offshore markets. We have had three-day opening projections in the market ranging from $10M-$20M specifically for China. That range would be closer to that of Cinderella and Maleficent though it can still come lower.
Three films played well globally, Jungle book at $603M, Maleficent at$517M and lastly Cinderella at$342M, therefore the markets should be put into consideration before releasing the genie to be embraced both domestically and overseas.
In China, where Will Smith now in a good number of years hasn’t had a major film, a large-scale exhibit arrived in Tier 1 and 2 cities in an effort to advertise Aladdin. This will continue up to mid-June in addition to staging an Aladdin themed show on Shanghai Disneyland’s castle each and every night as from mid-May to early June. Given that the rest of the rest of Aladdin’s cast does not have a large social following, the young generation in China may gain less interest in Aladdin.
An Aladdin inspired collaboration music video for the song “”A Whole New World”” was recently recorded. This was after Becky G joined Zayn to record its video in Latin American Spanish paving the way for it to be spread widely in more different languages and consequently become known in more places, a move that saw Aladdin film gain popularity and fame even before being released on theatres.
Yet again in Australia, there were four zones, including Cave of Wonders, inspired by none other than Agrabah and Aladdin following a special push at the Grounds of Alexandria as from early May. Furthermore, there was even a lamp display to crown it all. In India, the same thing happened through the popular rapper and singer Badshah who actually created an inspired-by MV.
Away from Australia and India and now into UK, a big lamp installation was purposefully placed in Leicester square for the passers-by to make a wish. Interestingly, on 10th of May, Smith himself appeared from the lamp to carry out a select few. As if that was not enough, an Agrabah-style food market that offered various cuisines from countries along the Silk Road was majestically hosted today by renowned UK-based chief chefs.
