Mischa Barton as Marissa Cooper
Marissa Cooper is one of the original four stars of the OC, alongside Ryan, Seth and Summer. She is from a wealthy family and is Ryan Atwood’s only real love interest in the whole show, but unfortunately, she gets killed off in season 3, in one of the most heart breaking episodes of television of all time. Marissa’s drugs and partying caught up with her and she died in Ryans arms at the hands of Volchok, but what about off screen?
Mischa Barton – Now
Mischa started out working in theater, before making the transition to TV and film. Her private life has been just as wild as her on screen alter ego, including drugs and partying, to the extent that she ended up behind bars and then in rehab not too long ago. There are conflicting opinions about why she was written out of the OC. The last we heard she was trying to stop a sex tape getting to see the light of day, as well as working on Toybox, alongside Denise Richards.
Adam Brody as Seth Cohen
Seth Cohen was everyone’s favorite geek crush, and yet he only had eyes for Summer Roberts. After many grand gestures, the pair did eventually end up together, and in the final episode, we see a flash forward of the pair happily hitched and living happily ever after. Seth was Ryan’s sidekick, which fits well into his love of all things comic book, and made for a best friends bromance which was way ahead of its time.
Adam Brody – Now
In real life, Adam ended up married to fellow teen drama star, Leighton Meester, of Gossip Girl fame, who often gets mistaken for Rachel Bilson. The pair even have a daughter, and are totes adorbs. His professional life is also keeping him busy, acting in movies like The Oranges, and heading behind the scenes to write his own script as well. He’s also, believe it or not, co-created and written a comic book series! So Seth!
Rachel Bilson as Summer Roberts
Best friends Marissa and Summer were just different enough to make it interesting, while bot being pretty stereotypical rich kids. Dating Ryan and Seth respectively, they completed the core four of the show. Believe it or not, Rachel and Adam also dated off screen for some time, but it didn’t end in the happily ever after that Seth and Summer did. Every teen couple wanted to be the loved-up duo, and every girl wanted to be looked at the way Seth looked at his Summer.
Rachel Bilson – Now
Off screen, Rachel Bilson is just as loved up, but with Hayden Christiansen! The pair have a daughter together, whose name is Briar Rose. But what about her professional life, how’s that going? She has had plenty of acting success since The OC finished, starring in Hart of Dixie until it was cancelled just last year. She is now enjoying working on Nashville, where she can hang with another OC alumnus… Chris Carmack!
Ben Mckenzie as Ryan Atwood
Ryan Atwood was the seeming bad boy with a heart of gold, unlike his no-good brother Trey. He turned up in the pilot, all brooding and serious, and immediately caught the eye of Marissa Cooper, his one true love. He and Seth became the ultimate best friends, and Ryan spent the first three seasons saving Marissa from no end od bad decisions. After she dies in season 3, we see the most emotional heart break of all time.
Ben Mckenzie – Now
Ben hasn’t had a shortage of acting offers since The OC ended. In fact, he starred in some great productions, such as Gotham, and Johnny Got His Gun. His romantic life is going pretty well too, as he just recently announced his engagement to Morena Baccarin, who he met on the set of Gotham. They have one daughter, Frances who was born in March 2016. Looks like the OC set him up for stellar life ahead, unlike Ryan!
Cam Gigandet as Kevin Volchok
Kevin Volchok was a pretty scary guy in the OC, but apparently he saw some unhappiness when the cameras were turned off, too. “Those kids were f****** miserable. They would not remember their lines on purpose. They were young. That said, I don’t talk to anyone I’ve ever worked with. I learned a lot. But the things that I remember now – none of them are good.” Volchok is the reason that Marissa died, for which we will always hate him.
Cam Gigandet – Now
Cam went on to get another part as an evil villain, in Twilight! Luckily, Kristen Stewart would fare better than Marissa Cooper! He and Dominique Geirsendorff have three kids together, and he has a strong acting career, most recently scoring roles in The Magnificent Seven, and Easy A. He is also currently working on the drama, Ice which airs on Audience Network. Turns out he’s just as scary off screen, as he has a black belt in Krav Maga!
Samaire Armstrong as Anna Stern
Anna really split the audience, with some hoping that the romance between her and Seth would be everlasting, while others seeing her as nothing more than a distraction from Seth’s true love, Summer Roberts! The pair did not get on in the show, unsurprisingly, and while Anna had a recurring role, she isn’t remembered as one of the core cast members. When she left the OC, her life only got more dramatic…
Samaire Armstrong – Now
Samaire did end up acting in quite a few more US television shows, but she also had some health issues, which were kept pretty hush hush. She told the media that she had “decided to enter an outpatient facility to deal with some personal issues in a therapeutic atmosphere and is doing very well.” Since then, her life has improved, giving birth to her son, and acting in shows like Dirty Sexy Money, and Resurrection.
Logan Marshall Green as Trey Atwood
Ryan’s big brother was the wild child of the Atwood family, and when he came to track down his little bro, we all knew trouble came with him. He fell for Marissa, but the feelings weren’t exactly mutual, and Marissa ended up shooting him to get away. He went to prison and it looked like Ryan and Trey would never decide that blood was thicker than water, but eventually, they buried the hatchet and Trey went back home to Chino.
Logan Marshall Green – now
Outside of his role as guest star on the OC, you can see Logan Marshall Green on other TV shows like Dark Blue, where he played Dean Bendis, as well as movies like Prometheus and Spider-Man Homecoming. He also has a pretty happy family life, married to his wife Diane since 2013, and with two kids as well. He’s come a long way since playing Trey Atwood from the grisly streets of Chino, I’m sure you’ll agree!
Peter Gallagher as Sandy Cohen
Sandy Cohen is everyone’s favorite dad, even his own kid, Seth! Sandy and Kirsten were the perfect parents, always there to give the friendly advice and kind words that the kids needed, even if they weren’t their own! When they adopted Ryan into the fold, it was a rocky start, but ended up being the best thing for everyone. Sandy and Kirsten were adorable together, although we probably wouldn’t appreciate the PDA if they were our folks!
Peter Gallagher – Now
Before the OC began, Peter Gallagher already had a pretty impressive filmography behind him, including a role in American Beauty, as well as the TV show, The Secret Lives of Men. If you’re a Law and Order fan, you’ll already know that Peter is now often seen guest starring as Deputy Chief William Dodds. He is married to Paula Harwood, and the pair have two children together, James and Kathryn. Kathryn is following in her dad’s footsteps as an actress.
Chris Carmack as Luke Ward
Chris was Marissa’s other half, until Ryan Atwood came to town and stireed up their perfect lives. It wasn’t as perfect as it seemed under the surface, as Luke would eventually cheat on Marissa, as well as end up hooking up with her Mom! He never had to see Marissa go off the rails and spiral towards her eventual death, as he left The OC in season two, a whole season before Marissa met her grisly end at the hands of Volchok.
Chris Carmack – now
Chris left The OC and went on to bigger and better things, eventually scoring a pretty hot role opposite Heroes alumnus Hayden Panettiere, in Nashville, the popular musical drama. Thanks to the show he’s also launched a bit of a musical career, with his own EP in the charts. In his private life, he’s engaged to Erin Slaver, and they have a baby girl. They met on the set of Nashville, so that show has been a real life changer for him.
Olivia Wilde as Alex Kelly
Alex is the black sheep of The OC family, swanning into town during the show’s second season, and leaving romantic havoc in her wake, including playing with the hearts of both Seth Cohen and Marissa Cooper! But Olivia Wilde herself was just using Newport Beach as a stepping stone on her way to bigger and better things, and The OC was the first stop on a long list of amazing shows, and even Hollywood blockbusters.
Olivia Wilde – now
The other Sitcom chatacer which OIlivia Wilde is best known for is probably Thirteen, one of Dr Gregory House’s assistants in the hit show House, with Hugh Laurie. The show made lots of famous faces, including Cameron, who ended up playing Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time. Olivia has also been known for hit movies like Her, Rush, Cowboys and Aliens, and Tron: Legacy. She isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and we love her new look!
Melinda Clarke as Julie Cooper
Glam and scheming, Marissa Cooper’s Mom Julie was certainly one of a kind, willing to be ruthless to get her own way. She even had a relationship with her daughter’s boyfriend Luke! She had a thing for rich men, and managed to snare Caleb Nichols as a husband, with her seduction skills alone. After she lost her daughter tragically, she changed, showing her great acting skills by becoming a more kind and compassionate woman, although not without her edge!
Melinda Clarke – now
Since The OC finished, Melinda has cameoed in some other famous teen shows that we know and love, such as The Vampire Diaries, as Kelly Donovan, and Gotham with her ex-OC co-star Ben McKenzie. She was also in the show Dallas, so she’s not short of acting opportunities. On the romance side, she is newly married to her husband Adam Farmer. They tied the knot a couple years ago in 2015, and have one daughter. Aw.
Kelly Rowan as Kirsten Cohen
Kirsten is Sandy Cohen’s wife, and Seth’s mom. She is different from her husband, involved in all the society functions and high life that Sandy doesn’t have time or patience for. But when Ryan Atwood joins their family, she shows a surprising amount of love and care for him, and becomes everyone’s favorite Mom. Unfortunately, her drinking problem gets worse as the show progresses, and she has many of her own demons to deal with.
Kelly Rowan – now
A Canadian actress, Kelly is definitely still best known for her part as Kirsten Cohen on The OC, and since then, she hasn’t made any great waves. She has guest starred in a few hit shows though, from Castle, and CSI Miami, to Boomtown and The Outer Limits. Off screen, she was engaged to David Thompson who is the 3rd Baron of that name, and they have a daughter together, but they broke off the engagement before they made it down the aisle.
Tate Donovan as Jimmy Cooper
Jimmy Cooper is Marissa’s dad, and although he isn’t a series regular, he becomes a familiar face, especially earlier on in the show. He is a kind father, and clearly loves his daughters, but he gets swept up in a financial scandal, and that tears down the walls of his seemingly perfect life. Poor Jimmy, nothing ever quite works out as planned for him, and he just gets taken along for the ride.
Tate Donovan – now
Tate Donovan is a famous face, even before he was cast as Jimmy Cooper in the OC. He was known for playing Rachel’s love interest Joshua in season 4 of Friends, as well as playing Tom Shayes in Damages for many years. You might not know this, but he’s also the voice of Disney’s Hercules! More recently, he was one of the stars of the hit movie Argo. He was married to Corinne Kingsbury for 3 years between 2005-2008, but he was once engaged to Jennifer Aniston!
Alan Dale as Caleb Nichol
Kirsten Cohen’s father, Caleb Nichol had more money than most of the residents of Newport Beach, and that’s saying something! He was a controlling father, and a manipulative person, who gets married to Julie Cooper, in what most people saw as a marriage for social or financial gain. We all watched with bated breath as Julie decided to kill her husband with poison, and although she backed out of the evil plot, Caleb suffered a fatal heart attack.
Alan Dale – now
Starting out as a rugby player before turning to acting, most people remember Alan Dale as Jim Robinson in Neighbours, a part he played for many years. But since then, and after The OC, he has found roles in many shows, notably Ugly Betty as Bradford Meade, and Lost, The West Wing, Once Upon a Time, The X-Files, and Entourage. In 1990, he married Miss Australia, also known as Tracey Pearson, and they have four children together.
Willa Holland as Kaitlin Cooper
Willa was not the first actress to play Kaitlin Cooper, and in season one she was portrayed by Shallene Woodley. When Willa Holland entered the show, it was a much more grown up Kaitlin that Marissa saw as her baby sister. She loved to cause trouble, and in between her stints at boarding school she came back to stir the pot of Newport Beach. In the final season, Willa was promoted to series regular.
Willa Holland – now
If you’re a fan of Gossip Girl, you’ll remember seeing Willa Holland as Agnes Andrews, but her real success since leaving The OC is her star role on Arrow, as Thea Queen. She has also been praised for her part as Davey Wexler in Tiger Eyes, a 2012 film which won her the Boston International Film Festival Award for Best Actress. The movie was based on a book with the same title which was written by Judy Blume.
Autumn Reeser as Taylor Townsend
Starting out as a bit of a frenemy, eventually Taylor becomes a friend to the core four, most closely with Summer, but also with Seth and even dating Ryan at one point! She has a strained relationship with her mother, Veronica Townsend, who treats her coldly and with disapproval most of the time. After joining the cast in season three, she is given the series regular position in season four, after Mischa Barton is written out of the show.
Autumn Reeser – now
Autumn has continued to fly high since her time on The OC, starring in shows such as No Ordinary Family, Entourage, and Last Resort. She also works in the comedy world, one of the leading members of The Thrilling Adventure Hour. She was married to writer and director Jesse Warren, although the couple split in 2014. They have two sons together, Finneus, and Dashell, adorably nicknamed Finn and Dash.
Chris Pratt as Ché
Che is a friend of Summer Roberts, who attends Brown University with her. He helps her find her activist self, and the pair get tight quite quickly. However, when the Brown board find out whats going on, they question them both, and Che kind of throws Summer under the bus. Ouch! Summer gets suspended from Brown, and Che get’s away scot-free. He feels guilty later on and comes back to ask her to forgive him.
Chris Pratt – now
We all do a double take when we realize that Che is none other than Chris Pratt, the most famous actor in the universe right about now! As well as making us love him all over again as Andy in Parks and Recreation, he is also known for starring in great movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic Park franchise movies, and the Lego Movie! Pratt was married to Anna Faris until late last year, and they have one son together- Jack.
Colin Hanks as Grady Bridges
Ok, this one is just cause we love the cameo, and Grady hardly has a major role in the show, but in season 1, in The L.A episode, Grady Bridges is seen and stars as an actor in the fictional meta soap within the soap, which the writers call The Valley. Look at his hair! And look how young the epic Colin Hanks looks here, sitting next to Rachel Bilson as Summer Roberts looking all like his dad, the Hollywood icon Tom Hanks.
Colin Hanks – now
Of course, Colin Hanks is famous for a lot more than this spot on The OC, or even wandering around Hollywood looking exactly like his dad does. He was Shaun Brumder in Orange County (ironically) Preston in King Kong, as well as starring in The Great Buck Howard. His TV credits are also extensive, including Dexter, Roswell and Band of Brothers. He is married to Samantha Bryant, and the couple have two daughters together.
