Kate Mara as The Invisible Woman
In order to create a female superhero that was pretty different to Wonder Woman, the legend that is Stan Lee decided to create The Invisible Woman – or Susan Storm. We’ll give you three guesses as to what you think her superpower is?! Of course, Susan goes down a storm (sorry) with Marvel fans when she can turn invisible on cue and has continued to wow fans with her appearance within the Fantastic Four franchise… if they can see her.
Kate Mara in real life
Kate Mara is the kind of actress that you’ve seen everywhere (or not if you’re watching Fantastic Four), but you just can’t remember her name. So what is she like in real life? Well, this actress has starred in around 50 movies and TV shows over the course of her career and has spent a whopping 20 years in the world of show business. Nowadays, she is mostly known for her role within the epic American Horror Story.
Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde
Well, Kitty Pryde is a mutant and a half, isn’t she? This superhuman was first introduced to us in X-Men: The Last Stand, before reprising her super role in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014 – and we were all pretty darn jealous of her powers. With the ability to run – or walk if she’s feeling lazy – through walls and disrupt electrical fields, Kitty Pryde is a vital member of the mutant team and often helps them out of sticky situations.
Ellen Page in real life
Okay, is there anyone who DOESN’T know who Ellen Page is? Known to her fans as ‘Fertile Myrtle,’ Ellen has since made an even bigger name for herself as the pregnant teen in the hilarious comedy, Juno. Since then, her continual appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has increased her fan-base tenfold, and allowed her to explore new acting avenues. In fact, she was cast in the 2017 remake of the science fiction classic, Flatliners.
Anna Paquin as Rogue
Like many of the other women on this list, Rogue was born into a life of villainy (*boo**hiss*) before seeing the light and transforming into a defender of the universe. As a member of the X-Men squad, Rogue made a name for herself in the original 2000 X-Men movie and has since played her role within every single X-Men movie since. Go, Rogue! This superhuman has the ability to suck out the energy of objects with just a touch. So cool.
Anna Paquin in real life
While Marvel fans will always know Anna Paquin as Rogue in the X-Men franchise, it seems as though Anna has also won over fans outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those who aren’t fond of superheroes (how?!) still know Anna for her role in True Blood. Incidentally, this bloodsucking role changed Anna’s life, as she met her now-husband on the set of True Blood. As if she wasn’t cool enough, Anna was also the first millennial to win an Oscar!
Chloe Bennet as Quake
Although we love the Marvel movies, we have to admit that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV show often goes overlooked – and we can’t be having that. In this TV show, we’re introduced to Quake, the daughter of the infamous villain, Mister Hyde. While her father may be evil, Quake chooses to leave her destiny behind her and make her own life as a hero. Thankfully, this risk pays off, as Quake becomes one of our favorites.
Chloe Bennet in real life
Nowadays, we always associate Quake with the actress Chloe Bennet – but it seems this showbiz superstar was actually born Chloe Wang! After appearing on the small screen for so long, this actress will soon be making her big screen debut as her superhero counterpart (woo-hoo!) in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. However, Chloe hadn’t always dreamed of being an actress. When she was younger, she was dead-set on being a musician and even moved to China to pursue her career.
Jennifer Garner as Elektra
Fans of Marvel will know that Stan Lee (what a man) has often used Greek mythology to form new and exciting characters for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that’s exactly what he did with Elektra. With an impressive set of skills that range from martial arts to sword work, Elektra is the kind of superhero that will definitely put you on the ground within seconds. Yet, her strength and violent nature often leave her on the cusp between good and evil…
Jennifer Garner in real life
We first met Jennifer Garner’s character in the 2003 Daredevil movie, but Garner was so impressive with her swords that she was eventually given her own movie in 2005! However, many people actually forget that this was the case, as Jennifer Garner is arguably one of the most celebrated actresses in the world of Hollywood. Yep, this brunette beauty has wowed us with her roles in the likes of 13 Going on 30, Dallas Buyers Club, Miracles From Heaven and more.
Halle Berry as Storm
We think Stan Lee must have had a little brain-fog moment when it came to naming this superhero – as he was perhaps a little *too* obvious. As you can probably tell, this X-Men member has the ability to create storms within seconds, with the use of her mind. But her powers don’t stop there. This superhero can blow you away (#sorrynotsorry) with her ability to control the whole weather system! She also has the power to control the rest of the X-Men…
Halle Berry in real life
Let’s be honest, we all know who Halle Berry is – and we were over the moon to discover that Halle was given a chance to play one of the first black comic book characters in recent history. Yet, it’s difficult to choose which one of Halle’s movies we love the most because there have been so many! Over the course of her career, Berry has been a Bond Girl within the popular movie, Die Another Day, and won numerous awards.
Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp
While die-hard Marvel fans know her primarily as The Wasp, we also know her as Hope Van Dyne – because when the suit comes on, it all changes, y’all. We first met Hope in the 2015 movie, Ant-Man, where she starred alongside Paul Rudd, and we’ll be seeing her again pretty soon in the 2018 movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp (how creative). In this, she’ll once again show her ability to inflict bioelectric shocks and shrink down to wasp size.
Evangeline Lilly in real life
While Marvel fans now know her in all of her flying glory, those who have yet to watch Ant-Man or read any of the comics (shameful) will probably know her from a rather popular television show. Yep, Evangeline Lilly made a name for herself on Lost, before making her entrance into the wonderful world of Hollywood. Since then, she has landed major roles in The Hobbit, The Hurt Locker, and more. Not bad for a wasp, ey?
Jennifer Lawrence as Young Mystique
Are you feeling a little blue today, Young Mystique? As one of the most colorful members of the X-Men clan, it’s fair to say that this superhuman would not go unnoticed in a crowded – or, y’know, she might. After all, Mystique has the epic ability to camouflage herself and shapeshift from place to place without being noticed! In the original X-Men movies, Mystique was played by Rebecca Romijn, before the legend that is Jennifer Lawrence took over the role.
Jennifer Lawrence in real life
Okay, anyone else think that Jennifer Lawrence is the coolest person in Hollywood right now? Yep, we’re with ya on that one. As if she wasn’t cool enough already, Jennifer has also taken the baton as the highest paid actress in Hollywood. Nice. While Marvel fans know her as Young Mystique, it’s fair to say that her X-Men role is not one of her biggest, as J-Law has also starred in the likes of The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and more.
Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch
Whether you call her Scarlet Witch or Wanda Maximoff, it makes no difference to the fact that this superhero is cool as heck. So far, Scarlet Witch has appeared in the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and was often seen alongside her brother, Quicksilver. With the ability to manipulate the mind, Scarlet Witch’s powers are incredibly powerful, as long as she remembers which side she is fighting for…
Elizabeth Olsen in real life
As you can probably tell by the name and the look of her, Elizabeth Olsen is related to the Olsen Twins. In fact, she is their sister! While Mary-Kate and Ashley have strayed away from acting to pursue fashion, Elizabeth has proven that acting is her true passion – which is great for us. In recent years, she has appeared in the likes of Silent House and Oldboy, and will soon star in Avengers: Infinity War… which we’re totally stoked for, BTW.
Famke Janssen as Jean Grey/Phoenix
With her flaming red hair and some pretty epic superpowers, we’re surprised it’s taken this long for Jean Grey/Phoenix to get her own movie – but it’s coming soon, we promise. As a vital member of the X-Men tribe, this superhuman has the incredible powers of telekinesis and telepathy. While we would use these powers to get people to buy us ice cream, Phoenix uses these to overpower her enemies and save the world again and again. Okay, she wins.
Famke Janssen in real life
Famke Janssen donned her red hair and her super-tight costume for X-Men: The Last Stand and Wolverine, but it seems her Marvel moment has come to an end. Unfortunately, she will not be reprising her role as Jean Grey/Phoenix for her own movie, X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Taking over her role will be the Game of Thrones legend, Sophie Turner. Despite this, Famke has continued to act and has even worked with Liam Neeson and his special set of skills on the Taken franchise.
Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow
With an impressive ability to stand on pointe and defeat her enemies at the same time, Black Widow is unlike any other superhero on this list. While she does not have any innate superpowers, Natasha Romanova was ruthlessly trained in combat and strength to become a Russian spy – before she decided that working for the enemy wasn’t up her street. So, she became one of the Avengers and even fell (or jumped) for The Hulk/Bruce Banner.
Scarlett Johansson in real life
Although Scarlett Johansson has starred in Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War – there are STILL people who forget that she has been in these movies. However, we do kinda get it, because Scarlett Johansson is one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood today. In recent years, Scarlett has starred in major movies such as The Jungle Book, Chef, and The Ghost in the Shell.
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Behind every spontaneous crime-fighting superhero is an intelligent official who knows what the heck she’s doing – and Maria Hill is that person. Yep, she’s the glue that holds the Avengers together, as this S.H.I.E.L.D Commander lets the superhumans know the dangers and obstacles ahead, as well as their mission aims. Of course, the gang rarely listen to her, but at least she has the ability to say “I told you so” at the end of it all.
Cobie Smulders in real life
Although we all know Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, we just can’t shake the image of her playing Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother out of our minds. Amazingly, this talented actress starred in the sitcom for a whopping nine years before it came to an end, so it’s no surprise this is the case – but it seems as though she’s trying to break out of this typecasting. Thankfully, she will soon appear in Avengers: Infinity War.
Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore
Angel Salvadore is the kind of X-Men mutant that we all want to be. This superhuman was tirelessly trained by Professor X and all of his gadgets to become the best of the best, and that’s exactly what she has become. Although, she’s not just cool to look at. Angel also has the ability to shoot fire and ice from each hand… and if that’s not something you’re gonna add to your Christmas list, you need to rethink your priorities.
Zoe Kravitz in real life
As you can probably tell by her name, Zoe Kravitz is pretty darn famous – and that’s largely because she has the most famous family you could possibly think of. With Lenny Kravitz as a father, Lisa Bonet as a mother, and Jason Momoa as a stepfather, these guys are just too cool. Despite these family ties Zoe has managed to build up a reputation as a hugely talented actress. In recent years, she has starred in Californication, Big Little Lies, and more.
January Jones as Emma Frost
Unfortunately, we did not meet Emma Frost in the greatest light. In fact, she was introduced as a villain before she became a beautiful heroine! Emma made her Marvel debut in X-Men: First Class, where she was the evil sidekick of Sebastian Shaw. Nevertheless, she soon realized the error of her ways and moved away from the dark side with her mind-controlling and broadcasting abilities in tow. Oh, she can also turn herself into a diamond. No biggie.
January Jones in real life
While us Marvel nerds know her for her role in the X-Men franchise, it’s fair to say that January Jones has proved that she’s more than capable of making a name for herself outside of Stan Lee’s control. Amazingly, she won herself a Golden Globe Award for her role in the popular TV show, Mad Men. Yet, her talents don’t end there. January has also starred in Love Actually, American Wedding and The Last Man on Earth.
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
Let’s be honest, Iron Man/Tony Stark would NOT be where he is today without his mighty sidekick, Pepper Potts. In fact, we’d even go so far as to say he wouldn’t be alive! As the woman behind all of the technology and the masks, Pepper is the driving force behind Tony Stark’s business and superhero ventures. What makes this lady even cooler is that she’s one of the only people who can put Tony in his place…
Gwyneth Paltrow in real life
Okay, it’s no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow is the bizzle when it comes to Hollywood. Not only has she been in the business for decades, but she has also proven that she can put her name to every single kind of genre and acting requirement. Alongside her impressive track record in the world of acting, Gwyneth is also known for her impressive track record in the dating department, as this lucky lady was married to Coldplay’s Chris Martin for 13 years.
Karen Gillan as Nebula
An evil space alien turned cyborg by Doctor Mandibus, Nebula is not one that anyone in the Marvel universe wants to mess with. She is extremely athletic and is only too talented in combat (even when unarmed). She has blasters that she wears on her wrists, which could easily turn a human into a pile of ashes in less than a second. She also has the scary ability to rearrange her molecular makeup to disguise herself as absolutely anyone.
Karen Gillan in real life
Though born in Scottland, Karen Gillan moved to London at a young age to pursue a career in acting. It seems the young actress can do it all, as she has appeared in a large number of films and television shows. She even voiced a few video games. Her most notable roles have been that of Nebula in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and as Evie in The Big Short. She has also appeared on two separate seasons of Doctor Who, and Stacked.
Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif
Lady Sif is a character in the superhero movie ‘Thor’, which was released in 2011. She is a feared Asgardian warrior and a friend of Thor and the Warriors Three. When Thor nearly started a war with the Frost Giants and became powerless on Earth, Lady Sif and her friends disobeyed their new king Loki’s and headed to Earth to save their good friend. With their help, Thor made his return to Asgard and ended Loki’s reign of terror.
Jaimie Alexander in real life
Whilst Marvel fans will know Jaimie Alexander as Sif in ‘Thor’ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, this talented American actress has appeared in many other TV shows and movies during recent years. She is well-known for portraying Jessi in the series ‘Kyle XY’, as well as starring in the the 2013 movie ‘Savannah’. That same year, she acted alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘The Last Stand’. Since 2015, she has starred in NBC series ‘Blindspot’.
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones
Jessica Jones stars in the popular Netflix series of the same name. This hit TV show follows the life of one of Marvel’s darker characters. Mysterious Jessica was once a superhero but her career was cut short by mysterious tragedy. She opens the detective agency Alias Investigations in New York, which takes on cases involving individuals with special abilities. Suffering from PTSD, she wants to save the world but battles to get through each day.
Krysten Ritter in real life
Ritter has never been afraid of taking on darker roles. As well as portraying Jessica Jones, she also appeared in the hit show ‘Breaking Bad’, in which is played Jesse’s girlfriend. The scene in which she dies from heroin overdose is inarguably one of the show’s most memorable moments. Before landing roles in various TV shows, including ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Gilmore Girls’, Ritter started her career as a model. She will reunite with David Tennant – her co-star in Jessica Jones – in the comedy ‘Fuddy Meers’.
Pom Klementieff as Mantis
Played by the talented French actress Pom Klementieff, Mantis made her movie debut in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’. She is an empath and so possesses much emotional intelligence. She is groomed by the Celestial Ego but eventually takes a stand, turning away and joining the Guardians after discovering that Celestial Ego was seeking galactic domination. Together, they start to fight for justice whilst Mantis learns how to use her incredible powers for good.
Pom Klementieff in real life
Whilst she was no acting novice before landing the role of Mantis, Pom Klementieff wasn’t a particularly well-known actress. However, she blew audiences away with her performance, leaving no doubt about her talent and making it clear that she’s here to stay. Before ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, she starred in Spike Lee film ‘Oldboy’ in 2013 and the movie ‘Hacker’s Game’ in 2015. Klementieff will reprise the role of Mantis in the 2018 film ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
Brie Larson as Captain Marvel’s Carol Danvers
Carol Danvers is often referred to as Marvel’s greatest female superhero, however, the character has been left in the shadows by the other Marvel movies since the ‘60s. Fortunately, Marvel Studios has recently announced a movie featuring the character. ‘Captain Marvel’ will star Brie Larson and is set for release in March 2019. Alien Kree and human genetics have fused together to give her some pretty incredible powers, including superhuman strength and endurance!
Brie Larson in real life
Brie Larson first hit our screens in 1998 when she appeared on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno. She then went on feature in various other shows before getting her big break in the sitcom ‘Raising Dad’, in which she played Emily. She landed the leading role in ‘Room’ in 2015 before going on to star in the Marvel movies – ‘Captain Marvel’ and an Avengers movie which is so far untitled. Both are due to be released in 2019.
