Reality television is becoming somewhat of an epidemic in the world. When you think about it, even if you are not a fan of such shows, it is becoming increasingly impossible to ignore. Media platforms such as television, the internet as well as print media are all over reality television like a rash. Think about it. You can access Big Brother footage 24 hours a day, finales of shows such as Survivor are plastered all over the newspapers and families like the Kardashians have become role models to young females all over the world. So why do people love reality television so much?
Kimberly was one of the original cast members of The Real Housewives of Orange County. She and her husband have a fortune 200 company and it was decided early she would stay home and raise the kids. She has had a breast augmentation since being on the show and speaks about how it has changed since she’s been on it saying, “The show has morphed into this huge phenomenon that’s much more dramatic, with a lot of backbiting and nastiness.” Shocked? That’s nothing. Stick around for more!
Jo De La Rosa
Jo came onto the show in the first season and only hung around for a couple. As one of the original stars of The Real Housewives of Orange County, she was shown with her fiancé at the time Slade Smiley. They have since separated and she has taken part in another reality television show called Date My Ex: Jo & Slade where she attempts to find love once more. She now has a normal job and works as a marketing and advertising executive.
This Wisconsin native is another original of the show. Back in the 1980s she was a Playboy Playmate, working model as well as an actress. She married basketballer Matt Keough, but they later divorced. Jeana claims that the whole show was based on her, saying, “The producer, Scott Dunlop, wrote the show about my family. He was my next-door neighbor. When he started pitching the idea, he filmed us and sent it to Bravo,” Keough says. “They said, ‘Yeah, we like it, but let’s see some other families.”
Sometimes when you have it all it turns out you don’t have much at all. Lauri was also one of the original members of The Real Housewives of Orange County back in the day and although she started out as a struggling single mother, she found love whilst filming the show. But it was her son Josh that she struggled to help. He was in and out or rehab on a regular basis. She said, “I can’t fix Josh, I can love and support him when he recovers, but I can’t fix him.”
Gretchen was invited to The Real Housewives of Orange County in season four and remained until season eight. She was famous for dating Slade Smiley who dated two other cast members, Jo De La Rosa and Lauri Peterson. They have had troubles in their relationship and reportedly almost split due to their being unable to have children, but with IVF things could turn around. “We have had good feedback from our doctors about our bodies and, God willing, I can get pregnant in 2018,” said Rossi.
You might remember Lynne Curtin as the woman who was under fire for going under the knife with her daughter. Whilst Lynne was getting a neck and facelift Raquel, her daughter, got a nose job. Since leaving the show Lynne has gotten a divorce from her husband as a result of irreconcilable differences, and there have even been reports that she is in a constant battle with finances, some tabloids even reported that she is unable to make ends meet!
Alexis was one fiery character when she took part in The Real Housewives of Orange County. Seriously though, the woman got into fights with virtually everyone! You might not know this, but Alexis struggled to find peace with her time on the show, purely because of the dysfunctional relationships she and some of the other women had. It went as far as her banning all other women from entering her home, including female pets! Um, what? If you think that is crazy there is more where that came from!
When a cast member of the housewives cannot keep up with all the drama, they are usually not invited to come back for another season and this is what happened to Alex McCord. In 2014 she revealed that the whole family was going to move back to her husband’s native land, Australia. “Our children have never had the opportunity to live within walking distance of grandparents and cousins, and with our two boys aged 8 and 10, it’s the perfect time for the extended family to enjoy each other.”
Tammy had a bit of a tough time in life when she divorced her husband Lou after she found out about his infidelity. The single mum of three then went on to find love with a man named Duff, having a son with him as well. As things turned out she could not separate the friends from the benefits and decided to give it a miss. Her daughter has been in trouble with the law after a hit and run and battery of a police officer so she hasn’t had a smooth road.
Quinn joined the cast halfway through season 3 and lasted that one season. She was considered a cougar, dating a man more than half her age. During filming her boyfriend Jared was just 26 years old and lets just say the other ladies had a word or two to say about Quinn’s dating life. One of the other cast members said, “I think if you’re super-hot like Demi Moore you can get away with it, but that’s not the case.” Surprised? There is more gossip where that came from.
Peggy was what you would call in the reality television industry a one season wonder. She was probably most famous on the show for talking about her postpartum depression, which although affects many women is still somewhat of a taboo subject. When asked if she would do another reality television show, she answered, “Yes I definitely am open to doing another reality show and am currently in production on one I created. I have to be excited about it and believe in what the show is about.”
You probably remember her pot-smoking mother throwing fairy dust (glitter) at people more than you recall Lydia’s role in the show. When asked as to what the hardest part of filming was she said, “watching it all back. You experience the drama the first time, which is tough, but then the second time you don’t know how the other Housewives are responding to you in their confessionals and how the fans are going to react.” That cannot be easy.
Lizzie joined the cast in season nine and the former Miss Kentucky USA and swimsuit designer actually once dated Nick LAchey believe it or not! She shared some qualms about joining the show in the first place saying, “I was very hesitant in the beginning and my husband was a little hesitant. I’m not really a confrontational woman. I don’t really fight with other women or friends of mine. I think any time you’re in the public eye, you put yourself in a place to be scrutinized and attacked.
As one of the original cast members of The Real Housewives of New York City, Jill was not invited back after she played out her fourth season back in 2011. A lot of the show centered around her friendship with former BFF Bethenny Frankel, but Jill claims she has no bad blood with her. It was just this year that Jill’s husband passed away and Bethenny attended the funeral. Jill said that there is no way she will be returning to reality television because it isn’t healthy for her.
Kelly Killoren Bensimon
Kelly was known as the crazy one on The Real Housewives of New York City, which is really saying something. Since leaving she has published two books, but when asked if she would do things differently on the show her answer was short and sweet, “I’m embarrassed that I allowed myself to feed into it, but I don’t think I would handle it differently. The ratings were amazing, so no, absolutely not.” The drama continues so make sure to stick around!
This young lady was called to feature in the show as a replacement for Bethenny Frankel, but as we all know Bethenny is one in a million and Cindy was unable to fill her shoes and therefore was let go after just one season. After she left she had financial troubles, even having to shut down a few of her Completely Bare salons. Although she left the show, it was reported in the tabloids that Cindy still had beef with other housewives like Sonja Morgan. Watch this space.
There is not much that we did not see when Aviva came on the scene. Apparently whilst on the show, she was manipulated by producers, shamed publicly by her father and vilified by the other ladies of the cast. All in all, though, she wouldn’t change a thing because many positive things came from it. “It helped me raise awareness for amputees and opened up a lot of business opportunities for me that continue to come,” Drescher said.
You might not know this, but Heather was very skeptical about joining the cast of The Real Housewives of New York City because she felt it wouldn’t be a great fit, saying, “I spoke with the casting director about my concerns, but after talking thru the “why not’s”, he explained that I was part of a shift the show was interested in making and I was in fact the woman they were looking for to help achieve it. I soon realized this was an exceptional opportunity before me.”
Kristen was on the show back in 2014 but left the next year. Although it seemed as though she had marital problems with her husband John Tackman, it seems as though their bond is now stronger than ever. They have two children together and Kristen is keeping busy with her nail polish company Pop of Color. When asked if she would make a comeback she replied, “I feel like you never say never, but I feel like I’m really happy with where things are right now in my life.”
Jules was on the show recently, but her life fell apart after she left the show. She was married for eight years to her husband Michael Wainstein before she caught him cheating. Things progressively got uglier by the second it seemed, and she felt the need to take out a restraining order against him. Michael claimed that Jules had a drug problem which is why she went to rehab, whilst she maintained that it was due to her eating disorder. An insider claimed they were having trouble before filming as well.
Well it might have been one of the biggest compliments that DeShaw received from producers when they said that she was too human for a circus show. This meant that she was only on The Real Housewives of Atlanta for the first season before she got shown the door. After her time on the show ended she divorced husband and NBA star Eric Snow with whom she has three sons with. She was graceful when leaving, “I’m fine with the decision. They let me go and there are no hard feelings.”
This RHOA star has had her serving of drama both on and off the show. Since leaving she even filed a restraining order against her former friend and business associate Kimberly Kearney. “I was really hoping this would fly under the radar – I just want her to stop slandering me, stop talking to me, about me and not to approach me and threaten me at events. I’m starting to really be concerned about her mental health with her erratic behavior. The drama continues so make sure to stick around!
Now this 80s star has continued to shine even after her time on the show, but it was in her biography that she published in which she REALLY told us how she felt about her time on RHOA. “For much of the filming [she] felt like [she] was in a chess game, constantly ready for and even trying to anticipate the moves of those in front of and behind the camera, while being strategic with [her] own, while staying a few moves ahead in [her] mind.”
Caroline was on the New Jersey branch of the show and tried to keep the peace between the ladies for five whole seasons. Later she landed her own show called Manzo’d With Children. When she was asked about re-joining the cast, she said, “On my end it would have to be a very well thought out decision because it has so many layers to it at this point in my life. So many layers to it. I had so much fun doing Manzo’d. It was just an awesome opportunity.”
Looks like drama follows Dina around no matter if she is on the show or not. In 2017 her house was broken into by thieves while she and her boyfriend were at a party. Returning to their home around 11 pm, they found two people inside of their home. Her boyfriend David was hit a few times with a baseball bat, whilst Dina was punched in the face. They were both rushed to hospital and treated, Dina for facial injuries, David for a broken nose. How awful.
Danielle might be the housewife that brought the most drama in just two seasons of the New Jersey show. It didn’t take long for her dark past to catch up with her and she was almost always the center of all the fights. In 2010 she published a book where she detailed her turbulent, criminal past and in 2012 filed for bankruptcy! Believe it or not as of 2017 she became engaged to Marty Caffrey, her 20th fiancé. Impressed? We bet! Keep reading for more juicy goss!
Well Kathy was definitely no stranger to explosive arguments, often going head to head with Teresa Giudice, but she says the only regret she has from the show is not telling someone to go F themselves. She also cleared up the definition of a Real Housewife for us. “Housewife means a woman who stays at home, a stay-at-home mom—the woman that takes care of everything in the house. A domestic engineer, I guess you could call it,” she said. “The whole pop-culture, TV persona thing of [the Real] Housewife is completely different.”
Teresa took part in arguably the worst season of RHONJ has ever seen. Of the whole cast, only two members came back, Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga. As one half of the twin duo, Teresa Aprea and Nicole did not even manage to get a separate tag line. In February of this year one of her restaurants went up in flames, but Aprea and her husband must have done something right because she has a net worth of $10 million.
Amber has been on various shows throughout her time including RHONJ, Restaurant Stakeout, Marriage Bootcamp and others. Since her time on the show the breast cancer survivor has thrown herself into charity work helping homeless veterans. As for her return to television she said, “I also have been approached by a production company to create a series on the homes we are renovating for veterans. You never know…”So you heard it here first folks! You might get to see Amber on your screens once more!
You might know Nicole as the twin sister of Teresa with whom she appeared on the sixth season of RHONJ. Once married to Joseph Mauriello for as long as fourteen years, she has since divorced, raising her two sons as a single mother. She moved to her parents’ house after getting separated due to the fact that she couldn’t handle living on her own. In April of 2017 she began her body transformation losing as much as 50 pounds after reaching her heaviest, 265 pounds.
