Carl Weathers Biography:

Carl Weathers is from New Orleans and grew up with a keen interest in sport. He attended St. Augustine High School where he played an active role in football, gymnastics, judo, boxing, and soccer. After graduating Weathers eventually ended up at San Diego State University, earning a BA in Drama. But, acting was not originally his chosen path.

Weathers had ambitions of becoming a professional football player. He played as a linebacker in college, and at San Diego State, but he was never drafted. For a period of about 4 years, Weathers had a professional career, first with Oakland Raiders, and then with B.C. Lions in Canada. He retired from football in 1974 to take up acting on a full-time basis.

Starting off with small roles in blaxploitation flicks Friday Foster (1975) and Bucktown (1975), Weathers got his big break a year later when he won the role of loud mouthed Apollo Creed in Rocky (1976). He played the character for a total of 4 movies, until Creed’s death in Rocky IV (1985). Two years later he joined with superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie Predator (1987). He also enjoyed supporting roles in the Adam Sandler movies Happy Gilmore and Little Nicky.
