Alan Rickman Biography:

Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born on February 21, 1946, in London, UK and spent his early life growing up on a council estate, before his father died when he was just eight-years-old. After finishing school, Rickman went on to study Graphic Design at the Chelsea College of Art and Design, and later the Royal College of Art for his graduate study – which led Rickman and a group of his friends to create their own graphic design company. However, after three years in the business, Alan Rickman decided that he wanted to pursue his acting career professionally, so went back to his studies, this time with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where he specialized in Shakespeare. After proving he was a highly competent actor, Alan Rickman was offered a role in the Broadway adaptation of ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’ as Vicomte de Valmont. This role sparked Hollywood’s interest with the actor, and the next year, he made his movie debut alongside Bruce Willis in Die Hard (1988) as the evil villain, Hans Gruber. His performance in this movie led the way to a plethora of villain roles, and Rickman soon made a name for himself as the ultimate movie villain. Despite this, Alan had a whole host of characters under his belt, and his movies ranged from Sense and Sensibility (1995) to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). But it was Alan’s 2001 – 2011 role in Harry Potter as Severus Snape that cemented his incredible fan base. He died on January 14, 2016 of cancer.
