Bonnie Bedelia Biography:

A New York native, Bonnie Bedelia grew up the daughter of a journalist father and a writer mother. The family had financial problems when Bedelia was a child, and they lived in poverty at times. With an interest in acting from a young age, Bonnie, nurtured by her parents, attended Quintano School for Young Professionals. Spotted by a talent scout at the age of 9, Bedelia was encouraged into theater work. She actress in Dr. Praetorius, and earned a scholarship to the New York City Ballet. After dancing in just 4 productions, she decided acting was more her thing and enrolled in the Actors Studio in New York.

After a brief role as Clara in The Nutcracker, Bedelia snagged a role as a series regular on soap opera Love of Life, from 1961-67. There was some more TV work during this time, and, when her contract finished, she decided she wanted to transition to films. Her first movie roles came in The Gypsy Moths (1969), and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969). After a series of roles in film and TV, Bedelia’s most famous role came in 1988.

She won the role of Lucy McClane, estranged wife of John in the classic action movie Die Hard (1988). She reprised the role in the sequel Die Hard 2 (1990) two years later. Later that year she also took the role of Harrison Ford’s wife in Presumed Innocent (1990). In more recent years, Bedelia has gone back to television and was most recently found starring in the NBC drama series Parenthood. Outside of acting, Bedelia is best-known as being the aunt of Macaulay, Kieran, and Roth Culkin!
