Jared Leto Biography:
Born in Bossier City, Jared Leto’s parents divorced when he was a child. The family moved around a lot when Leto was a child, a result of his grandfather being in the Air Force. At a young age, his mother became part of the hippie movement and encouraged her kids to be more creative and embrace the arts. This led to him and his brother starting to play music at a young age, using a broken-down piano.
Jared dropped out of school in the 10th grade but decided to return to education in Washington D.C. After enrolling in the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Leto developed a keen interest in movies and switched to the School of Visual Arts in New York. In 1992 Leto moved to Los Angeles and started taking some acting roles on the side while pursuing a career as a musician. His breakout role was Jordan Catalano in the hit TV show My So-Called Life (1994).
After this he made the transition into motion pictures, beginning with How to Make an American Quilt (1995). The film was pretty successful, and Leto managed to secure his first lead a couple of years later in the movie Prefontaine (1997). He also made appearances in the slasher movie Urban Legend (1998), and The Thin Red Line (1998). Later that year Leto fulfilled a childhood dream and formed the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars – the band has achieved moderate mainstream success.
After taking a few years out to focus on music, Leto returned to the acting scene with Panic Room (2002), and Lord of War (2005). In 2013 he found the acclaim he had always sought when he scooped an Oscar for his portrayal of Aids sufferer Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club. Most recently he won the iconic role of The Joker in comic-book movie Suicide Squad (2016).
