Julia Stiles Biography:
Julia O’Hara Stiles was born in New York City on March 28, 1981, to her artist mother (Judith Newcomb Stiles) and elementary teacher father (John O’Hara). Because of her parent’s love of the arts, Julia was encouraged to undertake dance lessons when she was a child, and soon discovered a passion for theater and Shakespeare. As a result, she began her career at an early age. At just eleven years old, she made her onstage debut at the La MaMa Theater, where she began to experiment and push her acting talents. By twelve years old, Julia was working professionally as a child actress in commercials, while continuing her theater education. By the time she was fifteen, Julia had already made her onscreen debut alongside Claire Danes in I Love You, I Love You Not (1996) before starring in the Oprah Winfrey-produced mini movie called Before Women Had Wings (1997). This display of talent caught the attention of Hollywood bosses, and Julia was soon reunited with her love of Shakespeare by the modern adaptation of Taming of the Shrew in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) alongside Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In 2000, Stiles took a break from acting to undertake a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Columbia University but returned in 2002 to re-start her career with the Jason Bourne franchise. In 2010, Stiles switched course and swapped the world of film for the world of television – including Dexter, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
