American actress, writer, producer and comedian, Melissa Ann McCarthy was born on August 26, 1970, in Plainfield – a small suburb of Chicago, Illinois. As the cousin of famous model and actress, Jenny McCarthy, Melissa was exposed to the world of acting from a young age and soon became enthralled by it, getting involved with stand-up comedy and The Groundling, an acting and improvisational comedy group. In 1997, Melissa made her first on-screen TV debut alongside her cousin on the NBC show, Jenny. After this first stint of life in the public eye, Melissa was cast in small movie roles, including Charlie’s Angels, The Life of David Gale and Disney’s The Kid. In 2000, Melissa McCarthy was cast in her first career-defining TV roles, as Sookie St. James in all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls. Although she was not a lead role, she became a huge part of the show and shone throughout the series – making her a household name in the professional acting world. McCarthy’s breakout movie debut came in 2011 when she was cast in the hit comedy movie, Bridesmaids which spun her career into a new level.
