Nicole Kidman Biography:
Nicole Kidman was born in Hawaii, while her mother and father were in the United States. The family returned to Australia when she was four years old, and Kidman attended Lane Cove Public School and North Sydney Girls’ High School. Kidman showed a natural talent for acting even at a young age and was inspired to become an actress after seeing The Wizard of Oz.
Kidman dropped out of high school in order to pursue acting full time, attending Phillip Street Theatre in Sydney, along with Naomi Watts. Kidman landed her first break in Bush Christmas (1983) and had a supporting role in Five Mile Creek in the same year. She had roles in several smaller projects like BMX Bandits (1983), and the mini-series Vietnam (1987). But her US debut was what would mark the start of her real acting career, working opposite Sam Neill in the thriller Dead Calm (1989).
Kidman was on the cusp of big things, and they came a year later when she starred alongside Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder (1990). They started dating and were married on Christmas Eve of that year. The couple starred in Far and Away (1992), and Kidman also had memorable turns in Batman Forever (1995) and To Die For (1995). She and Cruise again starred on screen together in the Stanley Kubrick thriller Eyes Wide Shut (1999). Following her divorce from Cruise in 2001, Kidman immersed herself more in her work. She won a Golden Globe for her role in Moulin Rouge (2001), and The Hours (2002), which scooped her the Academy Award.
In 2006, she married Australian-American country music star Keith Urban, and the couple have two children together, as well as two from Kidman’s marriage to Tom Cruise.
These days Nicole Kidman is recognized as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. In recent years she has enjoyed continued success but has also gone much more into the independent film scene as well. Most recently Kidman could be found on the small screen starring alongside Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley in Big Little Lies.
