Rebel Wilson Biography:
Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson was born on March 2, 1980, in Sydney Australia and was brought up fairly unconventionally, as her parents were professional dog handlers and traveled around Australia for work. At school, her favorite subject was mathematics, and she always wanted to enter into a career with numbers – before she found acting and theater performance. After attending the University of South Wales and achieving her Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Performance Studies, Rebel traveled to South Africa for a year as an International Youth Ambassador for Australia and contracted Malaria. During this time, she suffered hallucinations where she witnessed herself winning an Oscar for her acting. These hallucinations encouraged her to pursue her acting career, so she applied to study at the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP). After successfully completing her first year here, she was awarded a scholarship funded by the actress Nicole Kidman, to study in New York where she began to write and perform in on stage musicals and performances. Rebel Wilson soon caught the attention of high-profile Hollywood agents and moved to LA, where she earned her first major film role in Bridesmaids; Rebel’s role as Matt Lucas’s sister was written especially for her. After this performance, Rebel was offered similar small roles within American TV shows like Workaholics and Rules of Engagement before being offered larger roles in Hollywood blockbusters such as Ice Age: Continental Drift, The Bachelorette, and Pitch Perfect. The latter skyrocketed her acting career, and she has since become one of the most popular comedy actresses in the business.
