William Shatner Defends Tarantino’s R-Rated Star Trek Movie

Star Trek is one of those franchises that has a set way of how it works. It is a franchise that has been filmed or told in a certain specific way. Fans have gotten used to some way of seeing it. When that changes, you find it impossible not to worry. Since last year, there has been news of Quentin Tarantino, doing a Star Trek movie. That brought concerns because if you know anything about Tarantino, it’s that his style is far from anything in the Star Trek universe.

We must get one thing right though. Quentin Tarantino is one of the best filmmakers. With nine films under his belt so far, he is one of those directors who do not seem to make a bad movie. He is well-known for being a master storyteller and a very excellent director. That is an undeniable fact.
When it became known that Tarantino was working on a new Star Trek movie, it also emerged that this movie would be R-Rated. The director has a trademark style which uses bold language (more than bold actually,) a disturbingly high amount of blood and unbridled violence. To say that Star Trek fans were upset, would be an understatement.

After J.J. Abram’s reboot, Star Trek was headed for a new frontier, presumably one where the universe would be making more movies but some flicks that came after the trilogy were less than exciting for the audiences that went to see them. With the tide of fans opposing a Tarantino Star Trek film, one surprising person is helping ease the tension: William Shatner.
If you know anything at all about the Star Trek Universe, then you know that William Shatner is a legend. In a twitter exchange with a concerned member of the Starfleet, he explains that Star Trek: Discovery used expletives. He doesn’t see that as a problem for this hypothetical Star Trek film. William Shatner poses the question about why has no one had a meltdown over other instances of words being used that are not considered part of Starfleet’s Code of Conduct.

Fans will have to choose to either see a Star Trek movie or not to see a Star Trek movie, but it will happen. Paramount, the home studio of Star Trek, confirmed that this project is going ahead. If you have doubts about the genius of Tarantino, you should probably see his latest movie ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’
