James Wan’s Mortal Kombat Project Gets 2021 Release Date

The Mortal Kombat franchise started way back in 1992 when the first ever video game was released as an arcade game. The franchise has gotten a ton of sequels, comic books and even a few solid live action movies over the years. We all remember quite clearly back in the 1990s when Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation were released and received lackluster reviews.

At the moment, Warner Bros. is preparing to reboot the franchise thus getting the Mortal Kombat live-action movie reboot an official 2021 release date.
It was not until James Wan became involved in the movie as a producer that the Mortal Kombat movie project started to gain traction. This is to say that the movie had been in development for years without gaining any traction.

James Wan’s Mortal Kombat Project Gets 2021 Release Date

In 2016, a really good year for Mortal Kombat, Wan himself mentioned that Mortal Kombat was not going to be rushed in order for the movie to be done right so as to make something that people will enjoy. In that same year, Simon McOuoid was hired to direct the reboot. The pre-production on Mortal Kombat would start this month with a filming location of Australia being announced as revealed earlier this week. The good news also is that a release date was also just revealed.

Mortal Kombat will be released on March 5, 2021, this is first reported by deadline. With this specific release date which is far much the same as that of the live-action Masters of the Universe will set a tight competition between the two great films. Both films will also go head to head with Nimona, an animated adaptation of the comic book series of the same name. What a moment it will be for the eagerly awaiting fans!

So far so good, virtually nothing is known of the story or cast of Mortal Kombat. Everything is expected to come as a surprise, for instance, last year, character details for Mortal Kombat were thought to have been released but one of the film’s producer quickly refuted the report. As it stands right now, the only possible casting announcement is Joel Edgerton as Kano. This also comes in with a fact that Warner Bros. hasn’t officially hired the actor just yet.

James Wan’s Mortal Kombat Project Gets 2021 Release Date

It’s quite reassuring that the project seems to be firmly moving forward to the fans and now that it has a release date. In a span of fewer than two years, Mortal Kombat will be hitting the big screen.

Of late, Wan has been busy focusing on Mortal Kombat, unlike the past few years where he was so busy with Aquaman lest you forget a plethora of horror movies he has produced. It is with great relief that now he has focused his attention on Mortal Kombat. In one way or another, Mortal Kombat could be delayed under the possibility of the pieces not falling into place or could even be moved up if the producers are inspired by a certain story.
