There are probably very few people who don’t remember the iconic 2004 movie Mean Girls. It was a classic high school flick depicting cliques and how much work it takes to make it through high school with a decent reputation and some friends around. It was a movie many loved, and probably why so many people want to see the story again!
Adaptation of the Broadway Musical
The first adaptation of the original teen movie Mean Girls came out in 2017 as a broadway musical written by Tina Fey, who starred as Miss Norbury in the 2004 movie. The music was her husband, Jeff Richmond’s doing. The Broadway production didn’t star any of the original cast members, but the plot was pretty much the same – with a lot more music! And now it’s time to welcome yet another anticipated version!
Another Mean Girls Adaptation
The movie adaptation from Paramount+ will again show us the talents of Fey as a co-producer alongside SNL’s Lorne Michaels. It will be a lot like the previous adaptation of broadway and its original ancestor, the movie from 2004. The plot of this latest version of the beloved classic high school flick needs no explanation. It will follow the original story of outsider Cady clicking with the popular girls, leaving her friends behind but learning her lesson. Everyone is well aware of the plot!
Although none of the original cast will step into the roles, they will be played by some fine actors. Reneé Rapp will play Regina George, just like in the broadway production, Angourie Rice as Cady, Auli’i Cravalho as Cady’s best friend Janice Ian, and finally, Tony-award winner Jaquel Spivey, playing the lovable best friend, Damian. It is all the information known for now, and some might be disappointed by the lack of original cast members, but the musical movie adaptation of Mean Girls promises to be a hit!
