Can Matt Reeves achieve the impossible? Everyone loves The Dark Knight Trilogy, especially the second part. If Christopher Nolan elevated the standards of superhero movies, what else can Reeves do? Well, it looks like he’s doing the best he can to bring a different kind of Batman in 2021.
Reeves and the rest of his crew have yet to start shooting The Batman. But even then, there’s already enough reason for DC fans to get hyped. Why? Apart from casting Robert Pattinson as Batman, Reeves has also chosen the stars portraying Catwoman and The Riddler, respectively.
Zoe Kravitz as the Femme Fatale
Batman wouldn’t be complete without Catwoman. Just like Batman, she hails from Gotham City and has a black outfit. Plus, DC fans went wild when DC released a comic series about their wedding event. We won’t spoil you about whether they did tie the knot or not. But it’s safe to say that they belong together.
Robert Pattinson needs a fantastic woman to play Catwoman. Thankfully, Reeves knew what he was doing. He cast none other than Zoe Kravitz. That’s right: The daughter of Lenny Kravitz will fight crime in Gotham in two years.
Does she have the looks? Definitely. Her whole physique is not only gorgeous but also fit. She can surely do stunts and be beautiful at the same time. The 30-year-old actress isn’t new to the world of action and big-budget movies as well. She’s done X-Men: First Class and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Moreover, the casting makes so much sense. Even before the news of her The Batman casting, she was already in the world of Batman. How? Kravitz voiced Catwoman in The Lego Batman Movie in 2017. She’s got the experience. You could even say she’s just reprising her character.
Paul Dano as The Riddler
What about The Riddler? Sure, he’s not as popular as The Joker or Penguin. But Edward Nashton is still an exciting supervillain in the world of Batman. Moreover, he’s likely going to be a crucial aspect of The Batman. According to earlier news reports, Reeves plans on making a detective Batman story.
Since The Riddler debuted in the 140th issue of Detective Comics, he’ll fit right in. While The Joker gives fans morally ambiguous situations, The Riddler has tons of puzzles. This ensures that moviegoers won’t just passively watch The Batman. If they want to fully enjoy the story, they have to engage with it.
Now, we know that Paul Dano is set to play The Riddler. Can he do a good job? We believe so. He’s won several awards for acting in movies such as L.I.E. in 2002 and Little Miss Sunshine in 2006. Dano was also in Prisoners and 12 Years a Slave.
Hot on the Heels of ‘Joker’
Can The Batman continue what Joker did for DC? The DC Extended Universe didn’t work out. Viewers and critics alike didn’t appreciate Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. But the Todd Phillips movie proved that people are willing to pay for a good story.
If Matt Reeves picks the right characters and movie staff, he can ensure the critical and box office success of The Batman. With Kravitz and Dano joining Pattinson, we know that the main characters are going to be awesome. For now, we’ll have to wait for the full cast announcement.
