Hollywood is the global leader in film industry. It is the largest and the oldest motion picture industry in the world. It is also the highest grossing film industry worldwide. Hollywood movies are known to be creative, technologically superior, and encompass diverse themes. Bollywood, on the other hand, is the film industry of India. It is the largest film producing industry in the world, producing more than 1000 movies annually. The movies in Bollywood are made on more local context, culture, and stories. Technology and Quality
On the fronts of technology and overall quality of filmmaking, Hollywood is ahead of Bollywood. The special effects, VFX, CGI, stunts, action, and adventure etc. in Hollywood movies is much superior compared to Bollywood. Hollywood has access to more resources and has some of the best technicians working on the movies which result in technical superiority of their movies. The overall quality of the movies produced in Hollywood is also much better than Hollywood. This is reflected in the global appeal and market for Hollywood movies.

Bollywood movies are way behind in terms of revenue. The highest grossing movie in Bollywood is the Aamir Khan starrer “Dangal” which grossed $310 million worldwide. If we consider the inflation-adjusted numbers then “Gone With The Wind” is the highest grossing Hollywood movie with worldwide collections of more than $3.3 billion. For non-inflation adjusted revenues, Avatar with collections of $2.78 billion is the highest grossing Hollywood movies. Thus far no Bollywood movie has reached close to the elusive $1billion mark.

Production Cost
The production costs of Hollywood movies are much higher compared to Bollywood movies. “Bahubali 2: The Conclusion” is the most expensive Bollywood movie released till date with a total production cost of $36 million. Hollywood is known for spending big on movies. The Pirates of the Caribbean is the most expensive Hollywood movie with a total budget of $378 million. Hence, the movie budget and production cost in Hollywood is many times higher than Bollywood.

Movie Duration
The movie duration in Bollywood is between 2-3 hours. On the other hand, Hollywood movies are much shorter between 1.5-2 hours. The movies in Bollywood have dance and songs which tends to lengthen the movie duration. These movies also have deeper and complex subplots, love and romance all clubbed together in a package.

Earning for Leading Actors
The highest paid actors in Bollywood are the three Khans- Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. Shah Rukh Khan is the highest paid actor with average annual earnings of approximately $33 million according to Forbes. The highest paid actress in Bollywood is Deepika Padukone with annual earnings of about $10 million. The earnings are much better in Hollywood. Dwayne Johnson and Jackie Chan earn an average of $64.50 million and $61 million while Matt Damon has an average paycheck of $55 million. Jennifer Lawrence is the highest paid actress with annual earnings of $46 million.
